On April 1st, 1988 the Brooks household welcomed their second child, Mai Lilia Brooks, she was smaller than the first to the point her mother thought maybe there was something wrong with her. Mai was always petite but never had a quiet personality. Everything she did was big and she was louder than anyone needed to be at any given time. As a little girl Mai was never afraid to try anything, she wanted to play with the rest of the children in her family. Often times she'd get picked on by the older ones because of her size. However, it only pushed and drove Mai to be that much tougher and harder on others. So that nobody mistook her size for someone they could take advantage of or walk all over. Due to her parents rocky relationship Mai was often traveling between households, hearing arguments, and somehow in her own mind finding ways to fix things for her parents only for them to fail miserably once again. The older she became the more independent and self motivated type of thinking settled in. If she wanted something she wouldn't ask for it instead find a way to make it happen for herself. It didn't matter that she was years away from turning eighteen Mai lived her own life separate from her parents. Asking for permission was a thing of the past, whenever she was home she kept her head down and stayed out of trouble, but as soon as everyone went off to their bedrooms Mai was climbing down her window and finding something o do. Most nights she'd return well past mid-night, climbing right back into her room and pretending like she had never left. This went on for months if not years before one night she was caught slipping out her room. Usually Mai tried her hardest to not speak out of term, being respectful was key in her household, what they didn't know Mai was quick with insults and often times lost control along with the ability to stop. A huge argument occurred that resulted in the first time her mother ever kicked her out of the house. Throughout every argument Mai would overhear her mother was always at fault in her eyes. A true daddy's girl. Anytime Mai felt the need to run away she'd find herself in the comfort of her father's home acting like nothing was wrong. At times her dad had no idea of the troubles that went on while living with her mother. He simply assumed his daughter was there simply to enjoy his company and make sure that he wasn't alone. However, her father was never alone. He was the type that had women come and go in his life. It was one of the things that sparked real jealousy in Mai's life. She didn't get to live with her father and then she had to share him with multiple women she never cared to learn their names. Which resulted in her running back into her mother's house to escape issues from her second home. Habits that would later haunt Mai and every single meaningful relationship developed. Instead of facing harsh realities and working through them productively Mai would run away from her problems and choose to not face them at all. As years went by an anger issue settled in deeply the closer she'd become to someone the harsh she could be to them at times. Before her eighteenth birthday plans to escape her parents had been set in motion. She began working, saving up money, and doing whatever kind of side job to insure the second the clock struck Twelve O' Clock on April 1st she was officially out of her house. Mai attended college for a couple of years majoring in Marine Biology, lived with her best friend, and worked two jobs. It was a lot for someone her age maybe a little too much but comparing it to living with her parents she thought that was the better choice. It wasn't a secret anyone that knew her could see Mai had a way of making things far more difficult for herself than she ever needed. If someone offered a hand she automatically assumed they wanted something, nothing in life was free. It was something she reminded herself daily everything needed to be worked for or repaid in some way. A few years into her PHD Mai met the man who eventually became the father of her three children. There was a connection between the two that Mai had never felt before. Untold secrets and the want to know someone on the level she wanted him wasn't something she had ever thought of. But their connection was so strong that they quickly became inseparable, weeks later finding out they were having their first child together. Eventually the couple had two more children and married for a short period of time until she filed for divorce.
